Things to Do
Lake Aleknagik is the southern most in a string of lakes that form the Wood River Lakes system. With road access to Dilllingham, the village of Aleknagik on the lake’s southern end functions as the gateway to Wood-Tikchik State Park. This is the largest state park in the U.S. and one of Alaska’s premier sport fishing, kayaking and canoeing areas. The Lake Aleknagik State Recreational Site has a boat launch, picnic sites and shelter and toilets as well as short- and long-term parking. This area is a jumping off point for those venturing into the State Park or travelling across the lake to reach the north shore of Alekangik.
How to Get Here
Aleknagik is the only regional village in Bristol Bay with a road link to Dillingham. The Aleknagik Lake Road extends 22 miles connecting Aleknagik’s south shore to Dillingham. Visitors may also arrive by plane – landing on the lake itself or at the state-owned runway on the north shore.
