Bearskin Creek Guiding Services

Bearskin Creek Guiding Services is fully qualified to lead you through the Chignik Lake wilderness on a big-game hunt, fishing trip or photography tour. Bush pilot and registered hunting guide Ronald Lind has been leading outdoorsporting groups or photographers and maintaining his hunting cabins and boats since 1999, aided by a fleet of experienced guides and cooks who provide all the meals for hungry hunters and photo-shooters.

Three generations of Ronald’s Alutiiq-Swedish family, have called the Chignik Lake area their home. Ronald grew up watching his relatives clean animal hides on the beaches of the area’s abundant waters and he hunted his first bear when he was 13, at the instruction of his dad, a commercial fisherman and hunting guide. Now, since he’s taken over his father’s guiding service, he leads groups as they explore Chignik Lake, Black Lake and Red Salmon River on the heels of big game and alongside thronging salmon runs on pristine land.

Chignik Lake is located on the Alaska Peninsula, southwest of King Salmon, about 480 miles away from Anchorage. In this Alutiiq fishing village, people depend heavily on the area’s salmon, caribou, moose and seal for food. Surrounded by mountains and spawning streams, the village enjoys two runs of Sockeye salmon which are plentiful until February and attract bear who feast and hibernate here and at nearby Black Lake. Also find Sockeye, Chinook, Coho, Chum and Pinksalmon in the Red Salmon River, which flows into Black Lake before emptying into Chignik Lake. In the spring, bear head toward the mouth of the river in search of returning fish.

Bearskin Creek Guiding Services supports groups of hunters in multiple cabins and at a base camp which includes washers and dryers, full meal services and a sauna. All hunts are done out of the base camp by boat to and from the hunting grounds. Bear hunts can be wheelchair-accessible. Rates are listed per person and include lodging and all meals.
